I don’t remember how I heard about this place but I finally made it and WOW this is definitely one of the most authentic and amazing Sicilian restaurant I have had so far! The panelle was cooked to perfection and served the right way with lemon only the rice ball was amazing and done right as well and the eggplant capunata was to die for I could eat it all day with the in house Italian bread that they make! I unfortunately went a little to late to get the swordfish but that just shows that they use the freshest fish and it’s delicious and runs out! I ended up with the chicken parm very delicious seasoned well my buddy got the lasagna and meatballs and I’m picky about lasagna when I love my mom’s recipe but this place was up there with hers it was fresh the sauce was amazing and they made it Sicilian style with peas and it was just amazing I can not wait to eat here again and try pretty much this whole menu it is definitely a spot you must try!

Had the Sicilian Specialty - Milinciani a Parmiciana aka Eggplant Parmigiana.... Excellent!! Love places like this!!! it's all about the food!! No bells, no whistles!! Just awesome food.. Treat yourself and your closest friends come here to eat and make sure to bring your appetite!!

Joe's of avenue U is one of those landmark locations in my opinion. My wife and I have been going here since we were teenagers 20 years ago. We came back the first time after 10 years yesterday ( moved out of BK) and I am so happy to say that this place is not changed one bit. I always feel like I am at home when I'm here. The food is so delicious and very affordable with large portions. Most of the food is already made, so the table service is really fast. You can also walk in to the counter and take out. If you're looking for traditional Sicilian food this is your place.

We came here craving Sicilian after watching the show “From Scratch.” We walked in, The ambiance felt very authentic, as in Jersey Shore Italian authentic. The menu looked legit. Ordered the Panelle Special, the arancini special, and the chicken parm. It all tasted the same and very basic - nothing to write home about. They have a hot food buffet so they just warm it up in the microwave and your food is ready in minutes. Wasn’t impressed by the specials - they were lacking in flavor and underseasoned. Bland. Then, we ordered the pasta with sardines. The pasta was good but the sardines were off - the flavor was anything but fishy - they almost tasted sweet? Something didn’t taste right - we tried to finish half but couldn’t. Two stars because the price was fine and the service was good. However, an additional 4% fee is tacked on for using credit card? Not coming back — this is NYC and there are a million other better Italian restaurants than this one.

A friend of mind recommended we stop at Joe's for pulpo salad and the rice ball special. I got a half pound mix of pulpo and calamari salad. Very fresh and tasty. The rice ball special was perfect. Drenched in sauce cheese and had some ground meat in the middle. I am interested in trying more of there food.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Joe's of Avenue U, and it was a truly great experience from start to finish! The panelle special was awesome. freshly made and with great flavor. For dinner I had baccalaru in bianco. The flavors were rich and expertly balanced, leaving me wanting more after every bite. But what really made my experience stand out was the incredible service. Our waitress was friendly, and attentive, taking the time to answer all our questions and making sure we had everything we needed. Overall, I was very impressed with Joe's of Avenue U and will definitely return! The food was outstanding, the service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. Enjoy!!
